As many of you already know, I started conducting a world-wide count of harpists on August 3, so I figured it is about time that I posted the results of my count thus far!
PLEASE help me get as many harpists as possible included in this count. Ask any harpists you know anywhere in the world to send an e-mail with their first name, last initial, city, state, and country to cross_harps@yahoo.com with HARPIST COUNT in the subject line. You can also provide your information in the Comments box below.
For safety’s sake, please don’t put your full name or the names of other harpists in your area on this page. If you would like to give me other harpists’ names, please send them to me at cross_harps@yahoo.com.
Here is the count by countries so far:
Australia 1
Austria 1
Canada 38
Germany 4
Italy 1
Netherlands 1
Wales 1
New Zealand 10
Spain 1
Switzerland 1
UK 5
USA 292
Stay tuned right here for future updates!

My name is Kristine K., and I bounce back and forth between two homes: California & New Jersey. I found out about your count from the director of a wonderful organization, Bedside Harp (in Bensalem, PA). You may find several responses from this group at your website!
My harp is a 26-string Canadian beauty made by Tat Stanley of Kingston, Ontario. I only own the one. My harp is a workhorse because I use it for Harp Therapy.
With time, money, and a little convincing, I’m hoping to have a floor harp built by John Westling.
Good luck with your count!
I am originally from Philadelphia, but live in Leeds, England now. I play a Dusty Strings FH32 and a Dusty Strings FH26. I took weekly harp lessons with Kathy DeAngelo for over 10 years (I also play fiddle–taught by Kathy).
I play mostly traditional Irish tunes (jigs, reels, hornpipes, airs, etc.) by ear and learn by ear (I can read music and do for left hand ideas as well as when I get stuck on learning melody).
Good luck with your count–not sure why you are doing it, but why not, I guess?
Hi,
I’m from Europe, the Netherlands. I live in Zwolle, in the north-east from Holland. I play a Triplett Signature and I hope to buy this year a real Clàrsach Wire Strung harp. I play mostly Irish and Breton music. And I play a lot by ear.
I’m a harpist from Boston, MA, USA, though I play throughout the New England area. I play a lovely Camac Aziliz, as well as a cute little green Flatsicle (by Tasty Harps) that travels most places with me.
Here via Twitter, good luck with the count!
I am a harpist in Maple Valley, WA. I play a natural maple Troubadour V. I was a late beginner, (mid 30’s). I love the harp!
Saludos,
I am classically trained harpist from NY, but I’m currently living in Mexico where I am playing with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Yucatán in Merida, Mex.
I play an ebony Lyon and Healy style 30 and just bought an electric blue sharpsicle for fun!
Hi there,
My name is Patricia D., from Newry, Co Down, N. Ireland. I play the Irish Harp made by ‘Telynauteifi Harps’ in Wales.
I wish you well with your count.
Hi there! Another harpist from Wales, currently playing the 34str Alyssa harp from the Early Music Store. Mainly play renaissance/mediæval but love arranging modern songs.
And for the record the harps made by Mid-East MFG arn’t all that bad as I have 3 in my collection!
