Harpy New Year!

by Elizabeth on December 31, 2009

Yeah, that’s corny, but I couldn’t resist!

As the first day of a new year rapidly approaches, I think it is inevitable that we tend to mentally review the year that is ending and think about what we would like to have happen in the new year. New Years always seems to be a hopeful time for me–hoping that the pitfalls of the past year will not repeat themselves, and hoping that the future will bring about needed improvements in health, abundance, and contentment.

New Years, for many people, is also a time of making resolutions–of making up your mind to finally try something new or do something you’ve always dreamed of.

If there has always been a part of you that has always wanted to learn to play the harp, this is a great time to do it.  There are more harp builders in the world than there have ever been before with excellent harps ranging in price from a few hundred dollars up to almost $200,000 for one-of-a kind pedal harps!  And, thank heavens, everything you could possibly want somewhere in the much lower end of that range.

There are now harp teachers and harp stores all over the country that have instruments available to rent as you get started, and many harp builders are now offering payment plans through various finance companies.

One of the most exciting things that is happening in the harp world now is that many students are choosing to take harp lessons online.  This is especially helpful for people who live outside of major cities where harp teachers can be found and also for students who want to learn how to play the cross-strung harp, since there are only a handful of teachers in the whole world who teach cross-strung!

I have been teaching for more than 25 years and can teach lessons for lever, pedal, or cross-strung harp online using ooVoo (a free download), and I currently have students from Texas to England ranging in age from 11 to 84!!

So, if you’ve always wanted to play the harp, this would be a great time to do it.  Please send an e-mail to thevirtualharp@gmail.com for more information about getting started.
