In honor of Valentine’s Day, and to give us plenty of time to learn new pieces for next year, I wanted to start a little poll of sorts and find out what everyone’s favorite romantic pieces are to play on the harp (lever, pedal, cross, etc.).
Love songs, show tunes, movie themes, music from the Romantic Period, pieces from contemporary harp repertoire (Semmann, Thormahlen, Tasche, Kleinstuber, Voltz, etc.)
Anything goes! Tell us what you enjoy playing for Valentine’s Day gigs, anniversary parties, weddings, etc.
Please be specific regarding the details:
- name of the piece
- the composer and arranger, as applicable
- what kind of harp it is arranged for
- a general difficulty rating on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the most difficult
- any other comments you’d like to add about why you like the piece or arrangement (nice chords, lots of glissandi, easy left hand, etc.).
Also, please let me know if it is OK for me to include your name and e-mail address along with your recommendations/suggestions.
When I’ve received a sufficient glut of information, I will compile it all into some cohesive format and include it in a future issue of my newsletter, HarpNotes, which you can subscribe to by signing up on the lower right side of this page.
Please reply to me or post it in the comments section below if you only have one or two favorites.
Thanks so much for your input! It will be fun and informative to see everyone’s responses.
