Just for Fun!
I just love finding out about unusual harps or other types of instruments, so I thought I’d post a few of them here for your enjoyment.
I love playing duet and ensemble music, and just love this idea of a harp built for two! This truly “double” harp was designed and built by Don Peddle of Random Sound Music.
Here is another terrific instrument called a Waterphone. The sound of this thing is positively haunting. This instrument was invented by Richard Waters, and you can find out more about it at his website.
Another fascinating instrument was actually invented by Benjamin Frankin and is called the Glass Harmonic. This is a series of tuned glass discs mounted on a lathe-type mechanism that spins them as you play. The player keeps his fingers dampened and moves from disc to disc to play tunes and chords.
Dogs might not like hearing this, but I love it!
Playing a tune on glasses filled with water is something many of us have tried at some point or another, but these guys have elevated it to an art form.
And, saving the best for last, a bit of Tchaikovsky for your listening pleasure . . .
Just do a search on Google or on YouTube for more examples of these truly different instruments.
